We all have that inner drive to have or be more. It is in your nature and never goes away. Think of it as your own personal “aspiration” which wants to take you somewhere.
No matter how many times you feel like “giving up” on your higher aspiration, don’t. Your drive for more does not go away; it will continue to signal you to move on.
We all live in between two states:
Wanting to advance is a part of our nature. What may not be a part of our nature is the ability to live in the in-between state. Imagine being in between these two conditions.
• Condition one is what you now have – the good and the bad.
• Condition two is what you truly want to have
There is a skill to be developed as you move toward what you want. That skill is being able to live fully in these two conditions at the same time.
My experience is that living in the middle is difficult. Because of our need for certainty (control), we don’t have much tolerance for letting things develop on our behalf over time. In the middle creates a lot of anxiety.
Slide back is almost automatic:
If we are not tuned in to what is actually going on, living in between often creates enough quiet tension to make you feel overwhelmed and quietly slide back toward condition one – what you now have.
The desired state will fade, lie dormant for a while and reappear when your natural desire for more is allowed to again surface.
It is a cycle and you can end it by learning how to live well “in the middle.” Knowing that you are moving forward, despite current conditions is key.
