How to energize major improvement for yourself even if you’ve tried 99 times before:            #43

Why do so many people, who truly want improvement, repeatedly spin their wheels?

These five reasons are frequently to blame:

1.  They continue to do things in the same way (because they used to work well).

2.  They associate with and listen to others who have little drive for improvement (because they are

     friends).

3.  They do not want to determine the 2 -3 factors that will make all the difference (because they don’t

know how to make firm decisions).

4.  They inadvertently hedge their bet to avoid risk (no one wants to lose).

5.  They think more information or more preparation is the answer (the get ready, get ready syndrome).

Any one of the above is strong enough to put the brakes on change.  It is common for us to feel we have limited options when,  in fact, our options are unlimited.

Actions you can take on Monday:

The good news is there are immediate actions you can take (on your own) to move forward quickly.

Here are three of my favorites:

1.  Upgrade your ideas on what you expect to have six months out. This is the most important step. The ideas that you develop is the fuel.  No new ideas = no new fuel.  You can’t over invest in designing what you want to have happen six months from now. Do not wait for the others. Do it by yourself.  Think of it this way: Tomorrow is today amplified.

2.  Commit to making things happen faster and better.  Do not spend any more time with audacious goals or the big “3-Year Plan”.  Act on what is right in front of you now.  Act on what is in need of immediate improvement.  Big plans can follow on later. For now, they will not help you at all.  You don’t need plans. You need action and immediate results.  Think of it this way: You must handle what is in front of you now.

3.  Eliminate all the assumptions that argue “There is little you can do.”  The concept to embrace is that you have performance capacity to tap and doing so will produce better results, with a lot more enjoyment. Think of it this way:  You now operate at less than 60% of what is possible with your current ability.

 Action idea 90-days

Think about these three ideas for a few days and decide their possibilities.  Choose one area that you want to see changed and follow the above three steps.  Once you begin, simply look for the small steps needed to move forward. Take the small “next step” that makes a positive change possible.

I trust you can use some of this.
